Bogdan P. Onac is a Professor in the School of Geosciences at the University of South Florida and a Courtesy Research Professor at the Emil G. Racoviță Institute of Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj-Napoca, Romania), where he earned his BSc and PhD in Geology. He further developed his expertise as a Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholar at Pennsylvania State University and as a postdoctoral fellow at Lund University (Sweden). His research centers on reconstructing past climate and environmental change using cave and lava tube deposits, including speleothems, cave ice, and guano. He combines stable and radiogenic isotope geochemistry with mineralogical analyses to generate high-resolution paleoenvironmental records. His work spans karst regions worldwide and has contributed significantly to understanding sea-level change, climate variability, and geochemical processes in caves. More recently, his research has focused on unraveling the history of the Greenland Ice Sheet through the study of cave carbonates in northeastern Greenland. As Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Speleology and a member of several editorial boards, he continues to play a leading role in shaping karst science internationally.
