Cameron de Wet – 2019 Wilson Memorial Scholarship

Biography and MS Research Topic: Cameron de Wet is a graduate student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He is interested in using mineral deposits in caves to reconstruct past climate changes, with a specific focus on investigating rainfall dynamics in the Western US since the Last Glacial Maximum. For his master’s degree Cameron investigated calcium isotope cycling in a karst environment in California. He explored how variations in calcium isotopes in stalagmites record changes in rainfall during stalagmite growth. After his master’s Cameron is excited to be staying at Vanderbilt to continue to study how elements are cycled in karst environments, and ultimately recorded in stalagmites, as he completes his PhD.
